On Thursday, April 10, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a ban on South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, keeping him out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for a full year. This decision comes after Bosch decided to back out of his contract with the Peshawar Zalmi and opted to join the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League as a replacement for Lizaad Williams, who is a fast bowler for South Africa.
Bosch, who is 30 years old, was selected by Peshawar Zalmi, captained by Babar Azam, during the PSL Player Draft on January 13 in Lahore. Now, due to this one-year ban, he won’t be able to play in the next season of the PSL, which is a pretty big deal for any player looking to make a name for themselves in the league.
In a statement released by the PCB on the same day, Bosch expressed his regrets about stepping back from the PSL. He said, “I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the HBL Pakistan Super League and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the wider cricket community. The HBL PSL is a prestigious tournament, and I fully understand the disappointment caused by my actions. To the loyal fans of Peshawar Zalmi, I am truly sorry for letting you down.
He went on to take responsibility for his choices, saying, I accept the consequences, including the penalty fine and the one-year ban from the HBL PSL. This has been a hard lesson for me, but I am committed to learning from this experience and hope to return to the HBL PSL in the future with renewed dedication and the trust of the fans.
Bosch made his debut for the South African national team last year in an ODI against Pakistan, which took place in Johannesburg on December 22. So far, he has played one Test match and two One Day Internationals, accumulating scores of 81 and 55 runs, along with taking seven wickets — five in Tests and two in ODIs.
Interestingly, he was also part of the MI Cape Town team in the SA20 tournament this year and played a crucial role in their title victory under the leadership of Rashid Khan. This whole situation is definitely a tough break for Bosch, especially after showing promise on the international stage. It’ll be interesting to see how he bounces back after this setback.
