Headingley pitch curator Richard Robinson says fans can expect a good pitch for the first Test between India and England. “We’re looking for a balance between bat and ball,” he said. “I hope it goes the full five days, unlike the last two Tests between India and Australia.”
He expects the first team to bat to get around 300, even with Headingley’s seam and bounce. “It’s supposed to be hot, so we’re leaving a bit of moisture in the pitch to start,” he said, noting the pitch looks a bit green just days before the match. “We’ll trim the grass and have been watering it a lot to get it to last five days.”
Robinson hopes the pitch will even out as the game goes on and batters can enjoy their time at the crease. “If you can get 300 in the first innings, that’s a good score. The next two innings might be a bit higher.”
