Mumbai Indians (MI) had a great win against their rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), in their IPL 2025 match on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav both played really well, scoring 76 and 68 runs, leading MI to a nine-wicket victory with more than four overs to spare. After losing to CSK earlier in the season, this win puts MI close to the playoff spots.
After the game, MI’s batting coach Kieron Pollard shared a bit about the pep talk he gave the team before the match. He said, Mahela (Jayawardene) let me talk to the guys, and I told them I’m tired of saying ‘well played’ to Chennai after losing to them for a while. The players really stepped up today.
MI did well both with bat and ball, holding CSK to 176 runs on a pitch known for high scores. Rohit and Ryan Rickelton set a solid foundation with a 63-run opening partnership. The change that really helped was moving Suryakumar Yadav up to No. 3 in the batting order. Pollard explained, We want him to hit as many balls as possible. He can really change the game, especially against their spinners.
For Rohit, this match marked a welcome return to form after struggling earlier in the season; it was his first half-century this IPL. He hit four boundaries and six sixes, helping MI chase down the target easily.
This win pushes Hardik Pandya’s team into the top six, just two points away from playoff spots. They’ve now won three matches in a row, bringing their points total to eight after eight games. MI also saw Jasprit Bumrah getting back to form, taking two wickets for 25 runs against CSK.
