Recently, Prasidh Krishna, the fast bowler for Gujarat Titans, expressed his views on the effect of saliva on the current Indian Premier League season. His praise for the pair was well-deserved; Prasidh and Mohammed Siraj have been in great form in IPL 2025. After eight matches, they both found their names in the top ten of the Purple Cap standings, a great thing for their team and fans alike. Prasidh has really glittered in this edition, claiming a tally of 16 wickets over of those eight matches, shy of a few of his personal best in the 2022 season.
Interestingly, Prasidh credits the use of saliva to his amazing run in recent matches: “It creates a sort of chain reaction during the last few overs when fast bowlers can benefit more by it.” There have hardly been any high-scoring matches this season. While 21 matches saw totals in excess of 200 last season, this time it’s nine matches. Prasidh mentioned how this helps in the ball getting wet and in turn that means less enjoyment for the batters.
During a conversation with reporters at the JioStar press room, Prasidh went on to say, “Even if it’s just one of the 120 balls that wears a bit more, that could lead to an extra wicket because of a dot ball.” He stressed that at crucial points, if the right batsman is dismissed, this will disrupt the batting team’s momentum and slow the run rate, allowing the bowlers to regain it.
He was also charitable enough to credit Ashish Nehra for the strides he had made in the league. Prasidh was full of praise for Nehra, who, he said, worked hard with him. He concentrated a lot on the things he wanted to improve and made certain there were long hours of practice and conversation with Nehra. He gained valuable insight regarding how to read playing conditions and pitch behavior, which in his opinion was a valuable tool in the matches.
Gujarat Titans are to lock horns with Rajasthan Royals in the ninth match of the season. Sitting comfortably in second place on the league table, they now want to push for more wins along the way. With bowlers like Prasidh and Siraj in fine form, fans are certainly very excited for what is to come this season!
