India is all set to face England in a 5 match Test series starting June 20. This will be their first Test series without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who have both retired from this format. A lot will depend on how Jasprit Bumrah performs. Reports suggest he might only play 3 or 4 matches due to workload management.
Ravichandran Ashwin recently spoke about Bumrah who is returning from a back injury that kept him out for months. In a chat with RevSportz, Ashwin said that during the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, Bumrah was feeling exhausted and told his body couldn’t take more. He broke down in the 5th Test in Sydney.

Ashwin pointed out that there hasn’t been enough use of sports medicine and technology in managing Bumrah’s fitness. “It’s pretty subjective right now. In Australia, Bumrah only said he was tired during the Melbourne Test. After that he couldn’t continue in Sydney. There are some real lessons in this situation. That’s what will guide us in how we manage him in England,” he said.
“It’s tough to say if he’ll play 3 or 4 Tests. Maybe he could even play 2 or 4. With the right measurements and how the player feels we can make a better call on Jassi’s fitness.”
