Ravi Shastri, the former coach of the Indian team, chose his ideal Indian batter, leaving out Rohit Sharma and picking three others: Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
In a chat with Wisden Cricket, Shastri was asked to pick Indian batters to make a great batter. He chose Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli. When asked what made these three batters special, Shastri gave a big answer. He said they are different but the best batters India has ever had.
Shastri told Wisden, For me, the top three would be Tendulkar, Gavaskar and Kohli.
He said Tendulkar is the most complete cricketer and the best ever. Shastri said Gavaskar is the best opener ever with a plan. He also praised Virat Kohli, saying he has some of Viv Richards in him. Like the West Indian, Kohli likes to get in the opponent’s face.
Shastri said Tendulkar is the most complete batter of all time, which is true. Sachin Tendulkar, the God of cricket, could play in any style and in any place. He knew how to hit every shot and could defeat any bowler easily.

Shastri called Gavaskar the best opener, which is correct. Back in the 70s and 80s, India’s first Little Master had to face the tough West Indies attack without a helmet. The pitches weren’t covered. Despite all the problems, Gavaskar scored more than 10,000 runs and made 34 Test centuries.
Lastly, Kohli has some traits of Viv Richards. The West Indian was fearless and ready for anything and opponents were scared of him. Same way, Kohli is bold, in your face and never backs down from a good fight on the field.
