Ravindra Jadeja broke the BCCI’s rules by traveling alone to Edgbaston before the second day of the second Test against England. ESPNcricinfo says he won’t be punished as he wanted to get some extra batting practice before continuing his overnight score of 41.
After the 2024-25 tour of Australia, the BCCI brought in these rules. They seem to keep an eye on the players’ time off the field and push for ‘discipline and team cohesion’. The rules state that all players should travel together on the team bus. There are also rules about how long families can stay on overseas tours. These rules were asked for by head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Jadeja scored 89 (137) in his 203-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill who hit a great 269 (387) to help India score 587/10. England were 77/3 at stumps with Joe Root and Harry Brook at the crease. They were 25/3 earlier in the day. India are in control of the game.
“I thought I should go and bat extra because the ball was still new, Jadeja said after the day. “I thought if I could handle the new ball, the rest of the innings would be easier. I was lucky to bat till lunch and then Washy [Washington Sundar] also batted well with Shubman. The more you bat in England, the better, because you never feel set. A ball can always swing and get your edge or bowl you.

He added: “It feels great to contribute with the bat, more so when you are playing outside India and the team needs you. It’s a test to go from 210 for 5 to put together a big partnership to help the team. I looked at it as a test. If you bat with the captain and put together a big partnership it gives you confidence as a cricketer and a batter that you can help in coming matches.”
