There was speculation from early Tuesday that RCB’s owners might sell the team for about $2 billion. This discussion picked up just days after the team, led by Rajat Patidar, won their first-ever IPL title. RCB is owned by United Spirits, the world’s second-biggest spirits company. They came in after Vijay Mallya sold his business.
The rumors spread quickly online with some maybe even trying to connect it to a recent tragedy in Bengaluru, which claimed 11 lives. However, Economic Times reported that RCB fans can relax as United Spirits has come up with a statement denying these claims and stating that they are not in talks for selling the team.
Storyboard 18 published a letter from Mital Sanghvi, Company Secretary at USL confirming to Cricket Times that the rumors are just speculation. He said, “We want to clear up that the media reports are speculative in nature, and we are not having any discussions about a sale.”

These rumors apparently came about because the Health Ministry of India issued new guidelines that restricted promoting tobacco and alcohol in the IPL. So now it is quite difficult for United Spirits to advertise their products effectively through the tournament.
