Kolkata Knight Riders‘ Rinku Singh shared that he actually enjoys fielding more than batting after their thrilling one-run win against the Rajasthan Royals on May 4 at Eden Gardens. Rinku marched around with loads of energy, taking an important catch to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal and delivering a spectacular throw that concluded the win with a last-ball run-out for KKR. He almost pulled off a few jaw-dropping catches and saved runs at difficult points along the boundary.
“This outfield is one of the fastest in India, he said after the game as quoted by Cricbuzz. “It’s my job to shine in the outfield, and I take that responsibility upon myself. I enjoy fielding; maybe I do more than batting. Russell came in with some crucial runs, and I just had to step in in the last two overs; it just came together well. The team is doing well, and we are all just thinking to enjoy each game as it comes.
Besides his fielding heroics, Rinku also held the fort well with the bat, coming up with a powerful finishing flick of 19 runs off only 6 balls when KKR required it the most.
Overall, Rahane was happy about how his side put on a fight. “It was really close but winning by a run or two just feels great. Gurbaz, Angkrish played well, and Russell finished it off well. The plan was to be aggressive in the powerplay and then hold things together until the 12th over; It’s not easy for the new batters, so Angkrish and I were on to each other for keeping things together.”
Rahane remarked on fielding saying, “It is very important. If you can save 10-12 runs and take two catches or effect a run-out, it can tip the balance of a match.”
KKR now has five wins from 11 matches and sits fifth in the points table.
