Uthappa lashes out at RCB after 11 die in stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium
Robin Uthappa was angry for a day before posting anything on social media. “We need some balance during rivalries and while it’s great to want fans to be close to the team and celebrate, better planning could have made a difference. The city deserved a good celebration.”
He feels for the families affected and how it affects the atmosphere during RCB games. “It just hurts to think about what those families are going through. They didn’t have enough time to plan and doing this just the next day was a mistake,” he said.
RCB’s victory after 18 years of hard work will always have a shadow of this tragedy. “It’s unfortunate they can’t celebrate their win properly because of this tragedy. You have to feel for the fans and the players too,” he said.
A lot of people gathered outside the stadium for various events happening at the same time as RCB’s celebration, which included free passes and limited entry, just hours after the team won the final in Ahmedabad. The celebrations were called off when news of the stampede broke.

An FIR has been filed against RCB, KSCA officials and others. Nikhil Sosale, RCB’s head of marketing and revenue, is in judicial custody and some police officers have been suspended while the investigation continues.
Uthappa shared his thoughts in a video on his YouTube channel. “I was really angry for about a day and took time before posting anything on social media.”
