Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave a demonstrative exhibition of power-hitting against Punjab Kings, sending the ball to all corners of the ground. The pair put on an outstanding opening stand – 76 runs in 29 balls – setting RR’s base to 89 runs in the initial six overs. This was the highest Powerplay total RR has ever had in the IPL.
They thus overtook their previous record of 87 runs made a few games back against the Gujarat Titans at the same ground. Jaiswal eventually scored 50 runs off 25 balls, whereas Suryavanshi made 40 runs off only 15 deliveries. Although not able to convert their starts into massive totals for the chase, they created a strong platform for the middle order.
Before this season, RR’s highest Powerplay score was 85 against SRH in IPL 2023. Some of the top Powerplay scores for the franchise in IPL history are:
Score | Opponent | Venue | Year |
---|---|---|---|
89/1 | PBKS | Jaipur | 2025 |
87/0 | GT | Jaipur | 2025 |
85/1 | SRH | Hyderabad | 2023 |
81/1 | CSK | Abu Dhabi | 2023 |
79/1 | CSK | Guwahati | 2025 |

In that game against Punjab Kings, they also crossed another landmark by reaching 50 in just 2.5 overs – the fastest team fifty in the entire IPL 2025 and the second-fastest in RR’s history. Despite all the doom and gloom in RR’s fortunes this season, this young duo is truly some force to reckon with. The major issue was the failure of the middle order, which disappointed yet again after such an electrifying start.
