Sadia Iqbal, Pakistan’s top spinner, is all set to lead the bowling attack for her team in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. After helping Pakistan qualify, Iqbal feels the team is ready for the big event.
Iqbal was important in Pakistan’s Qualifier where she took 9 wickets, third highest for the team after captain Fatima Sana (12 wickets) and Nashra Sandhu (10 wickets). In May she became the No.1 bowler in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings again.
In an interview with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Sadia Iqbal said the team knows the 2025 World Cup will be tough but they are prepared. “We had a good Qualifier and the preparation was good. We know the World Cup will be tough because all the big teams will be there. We are keeping this in mind as we prepare with practice matches and different strategies,” Iqbal said.

Iqbal also said becoming the No.1 T20I bowler is a big honor. She added she likes the pressure of being one of the team’s most reliable players. “It’s a big honor for me to be the No.1 ranked bowler while playing for Pakistan. I always want to take the team to new heights with my performance. I enjoy the added responsibility of the team depending on me. It’s tough but I try to enjoy it,” she said.
Pakistan’s first World Cup match will be against Bangladesh on October 2 in Colombo.
Pakistan Will Not Travel To India; Will Play At Neutral Venue
Pakistan Women’s team will not travel to India for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Instead under an agreement they will play all matches at a neutral venue (Colombo). The tournament is from September 29 to October 26, 2025, with India as the official host. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said this is like the previous agreement with the BCCI and ICC. This is due to diplomatic tensions, same as the arrangement made for the Champions Trophy where India also did not play in Pakistan.
