B Sai Sudharsan, the young prospect from Tamil Nadu, is in the spotlight ahead of the first Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, set to be played on June 20 at Headingley. There’s much buzz about Sudharsan since he seems a prime contender for the number three spot for India.
At the age of 23, he is vying for his maiden Test cap and thus faces the huge challenge of filling the shoes of a very sturdy number three in Cheteshwar Pujara.
Pujara was a much-stabilizing factor for the batting order and now the baton must be picked up by the young. Shubman Gill, fresh from being appointed Test captain, is expected to fill in at number four, which became vacant upon Virat Kohli’s withdrawal from Test cricket.
Sudharsan-the defensive wall-has been battling through the last few training sessions in Beckenham against Indian pace attacks led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, if reports are to be believed.

He was a little inconsistent at net sessions, edging some balls to the slips. Coach Gautam Gambhir stood nearby watching for sometime with arms folded and might have given Sudharsan a few tips related to his technique. Sudharsan was spotted chatting with Gill, which was probably about his defense.
