After the 2025 IPL season ended, whispers started doing the rounds about Sanju Samson leaving the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Some reports even suggested that CSK was interested in him, possibly as a replacement for MS Dhoni.
Since the 2025 IPL season ended, Samson’s future has been the talk of the town. There were speculations that he might leave the Jaipur based franchise for KKR or CSK. Remember Samson is also the captain of RR.
But RR has decided not to trade Samson or any other player for now. A reliable source told TOI on Tuesday that Sanju Samson is an integral part of the Royals set up and will continue to be the captain.
Sanju Samson has been with the Rajasthan Royals since 2013. His first stint with the team was in 2013 and he has been a key player since then. Due to the team’s two year ban from the IPL, he played for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Samson’s 2025 season was affected by a fracture in his right index finger which he sustained during the T20I series against England in February. He required surgery and played only 9 IPL games. He scored 285 runs with a strike rate of 140.39. Later in the season he got a side strain and missed more games. Riyan Parag, India’s white ball all-rounder, took over the captaincy during Samson’s absence.

With Samson not captaining RR in many games, the team’s performance suffered and they finished 9th in the 2025 IPL points table. RR won only 4 out of 14 games but finished the season on a high by beating CSK by 6 wickets. Despite the injuries, RR’s commitment to Sanju Samson remains unwavering. He is the core of the franchise. He has led the Royals to the playoffs earlier. Samson offers a rare combination of skills – tactical awareness, middle order runs and a sharp cricketing brain. He is a big presence on the field and in the dressing room.
Keeping Samson in the team also brings stability in the dressing room. Especially with young players like Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Suryavanshi trying to find their feet with experienced leadership.
