The West Indies have named the 15-member team for their forthcoming ODI tour of Ireland and England beginning later this month. The team shall travel to Europe from May 21-25 to play three matches against Ireland and, from May 29 to June 3, play another three against England, making it six ODIs in all. Shai Hope again will lead the team with support from key batsmen like Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Keacy Carty, and the young star Jewel Andrew, who impressed everyone in ICC Under-19 World Cup 2023.
Shimron Hetmyer was a conspicuous absentee since he is currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. The team mainly consisted of those who performed well in their home series against England and Bangladesh late in 2024. This tour is the very first one for the limited overs side this year and would offer them the chance of developing their ODI team ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
Head coach Daren Sammy said that these matches are really important as we prepare for the 2027 World Cup. We are seeing some consistency after our recent wins against Bangladesh and England. He said that they will be in for tough conditions but they are preparing a mindset that fits into their objectives.
The coaching setup too has seen a few changes for the tour. Former West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, who was also in the 2012 World Cup-winning team, will now be the bowling coach, taking over from James Franklin. Kevin O’Brien, a former Ireland allrounder, is being brought in to assist during the Ireland leg of the tour.
