After a great IPL 2025, it was a tough one for Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, as they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 6 runs. After the match, Iyer spoke about what went wrong and how they will come back next year.
In the thrilling final, RCB set 190 runs thanks to Virat Kohli’s 43 off 35. They lost 9 wickets by the end of their innings. Punjab needed 191 to win but started well before losing their way, losing wickets quickly that messed up their chase. They went from 43/0 to 98/4 and then lost their 7th wicket at 145. Despite Shashank Singh’s 61* off 30, Punjab fell short and finished at 184. This win meant RCB won their first title in 18 years.
After the match, Iyer spoke about the loss. He praised his teammates for stepping up in a tough situation and thanked the management and support staff. He was proud of the young players in the team, “I’m proud of every single person who contributed. We had a lot of young talent playing in their first season and they showed great guts. Hats off to everyone involved.”

Iyer reflected on the positives, how many players rose to the occasion and how the young ones gained experience this season. He believes with that experience they will do even better next year.
Iyer echoed the sentiments of the Punjab fans, “We were strong till Krunal Pandya came and took the game away with a 2/17 in 4 overs. This is RCB’s first title in 17 years.”
