Shreyas Iyer showed real grit as he took his team to a final in front of Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 3 for the IPL Final. This is his third time taking a team to the final, and after winning the previous year with KKR, he must be confident about bagging more trophies.
After the match, Iyer was very composed and hardly cracked a smile. But he did smile a few times when meeting Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta and his Mumbai teammate Rohit Sharma.
About playing against the five-time IPL champs, he said, “Yeah, I was locked in.” He enjoys big moments, adding, “I love such big occasions. I always tell myself and my teammates; the bigger the occasion, the calmer you should be to get the best results. Today, I focused on my breathing instead of getting too nervous out there.”

He did want to enjoy the moment with his teammates and celebrate the final berth but kept reminding himself that the work is not done. Iyer came in to bat at number four after Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya fell early. While Josh Inglis continued to set things up on the other end, it was time for Iyer to accelerate. He went from 19 off 15 to 87 off 41 and ended the game with a magnificent hit.
