According to The Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer has told the BCCI that he needs to take a break from red ball cricket. He’s been having back stiffness and exhaustion issues.
Iyer, who was the captain of India A, didn’t play in the second unofficial Test against Australia A. The reason wasn’t clear then but the report says Iyer emailed the BCCI after talking to chief selector Ajit Agarkar. In the email he asked for the break.
Iyer told the selectors that his back is stiff and his body can’t take the toll of red ball cricket anymore. He can’t stay on the field for more than 4 days because of his fitness. He’ll play red ball cricket only when his body is ready for the longer format.

A source told The Indian Express, He has told us he will be taking a break from red ball cricket and it’s good that he has clarified it because now the selectors know what his plans are. He won’t be playing red ball cricket for the next few months. He has told the board he will check on his body with the physios and a trainer and then decide what to do.
The report says Iyer might have played in the upcoming Test matches against the West Indies. He was added to the India A team to get some practice. But now he won’t be in that series.
Iyer did play in the first India A match against Australia A, scoring 8 and 13. During that match he was also wrongly dismissed by the umpire off a ball from spinner Corey Rocchicoli. So after dealing with his back issues and this controversial dismissal, Iyer has decided to step back from red ball cricket for now to focus on his health and future cricketing career.
