BCCI posted a nice video of captain Shubman Gill spending the day at Edgbaston on Thursday during the second Test between India and England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The video showed what he did behind the scenes with the media and fans at the ground and in the team hotel and also had an audio message from his parents Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill.
Gill scored 269 (387) in India’s first innings. It was his highest score and the highest for Indians in Tests outside Asia and for Indian captains ever. Lakhwinder was happy to see his son’s long innings, saying it reminded him of when he was a child. Gill said his father told him he missed the chance to score a triple century.
“Shubman, well played. I enjoyed watching you bat. It gave me a lot of peace. When you were younger, under 16 or 19, you batted like that. I felt very proud, Lakhwinder said in the video through Gill’s phone.
“It was very nice to see you bat. Keep going. God bless you, Keart said in the message.
Gill then said how much it meant to him since he started playing the sport for his father.
“I went to the pool to recover, came back, and showered… This message means a lot to me, he said. “I think I played almost all of my cricket growing up for my dad. I started playing cricket because of him. He and my best friend are the only two people whom I practiced with. When it comes to my cricket, these are the only two people I care about and listen to. So, it means a lot coming from him. But he also told me that I missed my triple century. I hope we end this match well, he smiled.
