Shubman Gill called out England’s openers for time wasting at the end of day three at Lord’s. He felt 90 seconds late wasn’t in the spirit of the game.
Before the fourth Test in Manchester, Gill addressed the issue which the English media brought up after the aggressive play at Lord’s. Gill said the English batsmen were 90 seconds late to the crease with 7 minutes left.
Gill admitted time wasting happens and his team might do it too but there’s a right way to do it. He felt it’s fair to call for a physio if someone gets hit but 90 seconds delay doesn’t feel right.
The controversy started when Bumrah clapped sarcastically at Crawley for delaying the game before stumps and words were exchanged between Indian players and Duckett. Gill in his first series as Test captain even challenged Crawley to show some courage.

Gill said several things that happened before that shouldn’t have. He wasn’t proud of it but it didn’t come from nowhere. Gill said they were playing to win and emotions can run high when things happen that shouldn’t.
Just before Gill’s press conference, England captain Ben Stokes said his team would respond to any verbal attacks from India.
