Zimbabwean cricketer Sikandar Raza communicated with the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA) as a complaint was lodged by him in the matter of racial abuse during a Vigne Cup match on June 1. The matter came to light at Old Hararians Sports Club, while Raza was competing for Old Hararians against Rainbow Cricket Club.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Raza claimed that racial abuse was hurled at him while walking off the field after his innings. The abuse was carried out in front of players and spectators, and that upset the seasoned cricketer. Raza declared the situation must be dealt with: “If found guilty, an example should be made out of him so that stuff like this never happens again, not to this generation and not to the next.”

In response, HMCA chairperson Tafadzwa Madoro went on to say, “We received a report of racial abuse that our T20 captain [Raza] suffered last week. We are investigating the matter. Blessing Mafuwa will attend a hearing this coming Tuesday and will answer to the charges. In the meantime, he is suspended from all HMCA activities. We take racism allegations seriously and don’t tolerate any form of racial abuse in HMCA. We want to look into this as quickly as possible.”
