Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were hopeful of more centuries for India after Day 1 of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley, Leeds, ended with a strong 359/3. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 101, Shubman Gill had 127 not out and Rishabh Pant 65 not out. This was a great start to the series. Tendulkar reminded himself of his 249 run partnership at the same ground in 2002 when India won the Test.
By tea India was 215/2. Tendulkar was reminiscing about his days at Headingley, sharing memories of his 193, Ganguly’s 128 and Rahul Dravid’s 148. On X he congratulated Jaiswal and Gill for their centuries and said Pant’s innings was very important. He even asked his followers who would get the third century.

Ganguly chimed in and said India could end up with more than three centuries since the pitch looked much better than 2002. He thought Pant could be the third centurion along with Karun Nair who is back in Test cricket after eight years.

Ben Stokes, the England captain chose to bowl first after winning the toss but the decision backfired as the pitch got better for batting. Jaiswal and KL Rahul started with a 91 run opening partnership. Rahul and Sai Sudharsan fell quickly before lunch but Jaiswal and captain Gill kept the runs coming, adding 129 runs together. Jaiswal got bowled trying to play a big shot but Pant turned it around with his aggressive batting and India finished the day at 138/2.
