The clash between Sri Lanka and Australia scheduled on October 4th at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, promises an exciting contest. It is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM IST, India Standard Time.
Recent Outings Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s preparations have had a mixed bag. The first warm-up against Pakistan was washed out; then, in the one-off against Bangladesh, they lost by one run and highlighted finishing concerns. In the Tri-Nation series with India and South Africa, they were up and down with: Lost against India by 9 wickets, defeated South Africa by 5 wickets and India by 3 wickets before falling to South Africa by 76 runs and India in the final by 97 runs. With performances from Samarawickrama (who made 203 runs in 5 matches) and Dewmi Vihanga taking 11 wickets in 4 games.
In the World Cup opener against India, Inoka Ranaweera’s 4/46 reduced the hosts to 124/6. However, Sri Lanka could only manage 271 by DLS method. Chamari Athapaththu (43 off 47) and Nilakshi de Silva (35 off 29) put in a sterling effort with the bat, but the side was let down by a lack of partnerships as they went down by 59 runs.
Recent Outings Australia
Australia have played only six ODIs this year, that said, having been at the peak of their form. They had started in the early days with a 3-0 whitewash of England, winning the three contests by four wickets, 21 runs, and 86 runs, respectively. Against India in September, they had chased 282 in the opener but got bundled out for 190 in the second to lose by 102 runs, only to come back stronger with 412 in Delhi and win by 43 runs. A warm-up loss to England followed, but it hardly fazed them.
