Before the upcoming season, the former India cricketer Sunil Joshi decided to leave Punjab Kings (PBKS). Working with Ricky Ponting as assistant to the head coach, Joshi informed the franchise that he would not be available for the season ahead.
Cricbuzz reports that Joshi may well be inducted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Bengaluru. With PBKS, he was the spin bowling coach.
A Punjab Kings official confirmed his exit by saying, “He has informed us about his unavailability for the coming season. He’s a great guy and we have had a good working relationship with him. But we do respect his decision and intend not to come in the way of his career growth.”

Sunil Joshi Leaves Punjab Kings Ahead of Next IPL Season
Joshi, in writing, has informed Ponting of his decision. There has been no comment from Ponting yet, who is said to have had a good working relationship with Joshi and would have loved to have him around. However, he is understood to have respected Joshi’s decision and supported him because he realizes it is a tremendous opportunity with the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
This is not the first stint of Joshi with Punjab Kings. Earlier, he worked with the side under Anil Kumble’s head-coaching tenure before taking up the mantle of India’s chief selector today and later becoming a member of the national selection panel.
He has also been interpreted as the State team coach for Uttar Pradesh for a short period of time. Now 55 years old, Joshi played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2001. He has not disclosed anything about his next plans as yet.
Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings last season had a great run, having won nine out of 14 matches. Their journey came to an end when they lost the finals to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
