Suresh Raina seems to have created quite a stir when he hinted regarding the Royal Challengers Bangalore for their new captain before the 2025 Indian Premier League season.
The former Indian cricketer was providing Hindi commentary for India’s second ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Just one delivery before Kohli’s dismissal, Jos Buttler hit him on the arm when throwing back to his keeper, Phil Salt. The English skipper immediately apologized as Kohli and Salt exchanged a smile and continued with the game.
While all of that was happening, Raina, with the mic attached to him, began saying, “He’s captain too this time.” Interestingly, an English analyst who was also on commentary duties-Aakash Chopra-turned towards his colleague Sanjay Bangar and asked him to confirm; Bangar, however, mentioned he had no such information.
With Faf du Plessis’ exit from the franchise and the subsequent search for a new captain, head coach Andy Flower had mentioned in an earlier interaction that no communication had yet been made on the captaincy’s responsibility for the upcoming season.

“You will have to wait to see what happens. We are entering a new era-a three-year cycle-and I am sure you will have excitement around this,” Flower was quoted by SportsTak, just ahead of the ILT20, Season 3.
“You can keep asking me as much as you want, but that communication has not happened yet,” Flower clarified.
The RCB have hired a lot of star players both nationally and internationally to infuse strength into their squad for the upcoming cycle. But none of them stands out as a captain, indicating that it is possible for Virat Kohli to take the captaincy again. There was also a report in the Times of India which speculated that Kohli would resume captaincy duties ahead of the auction taking place.
