The Chennai Super Kings are definitely having a rough time in IPL 2025. They just took another hit when they faced off against their long-time rivals, the Mumbai Indians, who took them down by nine wickets. This marks CSK’s sixth loss out of eight matches, which just shows how tough this season has been for them.
Suresh Raina, who used to play for India and the Super Kings, shared his thoughts on what’s been going wrong. While he was on commentary for Star Sports, he pointed out some mistakes CSK made during last year’s big auction that resulted in them struggling this season. He noted that they missed out on some talented young players, while letting go of experienced guys like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
Raina said, I don’t think the management did a good job at the auction this year. There were so many young talents available, like Priyansh Arya who recently scored a century. Even looking at the more experienced players, you let go of guys like Shreyas, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul.
CSK has faced a lot of criticism for how they’ve been batting. Players like Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, and even Ravindra Jadeja haven’t been hitting the ball as they should, which has let the team down time and again. Raina pointed out that the way CSK’s players have been batting seems outdated compared to how other teams are playing. He mentioned, When you watch the other teams, they’re so aggressive. I can’t remember seeing a CSK side struggle like this before.
Right now, CSK under MS Dhoni’s captaincy is sitting in a tough position, at the bottom of the points table with six losses in eight matches. They’re set to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad next in Chennai on April 25, and fans are hoping to see a turnaround in their fortunes.
