The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 gears up with a series of warm-up matches from May 27th to June 1st. The United States (Texas, Florida) and Trinidad and Tobago (Queen’s Park Oval, Brian Lara Cricket Academy) will host these 16 non-ranking matches, played with 20 overs per side. This year teams got more flexibility in scheduling up to two warm-up matches based on their arrival. All 17 participating teams, including South Africa with an intrasquad game, get a chance to strategize and experiment.
With the IPL 2024 Season conclusion at its end, Most Indian players are also free to move and are ready to depart for New York for the warm-up match on 1 June with Bangladesh.
BCCI and Warm-Up Matches Rules
The ICC announced a change for the upcoming t20 World Cup event, stating, “Teams now have the option to engage in up to two warm-up matches, determined by their arrival time at the event. These matches will consist of 20 overs per side and won’t carry international T20 status, enabling teams to utilize all members of their 15-player squad.”
With the rules in effect, most of the Indian players and Squad are all set to move to New York this 25th of May, only a few will be left who currently are engaged in the ongoing IPL 2024 and will leave for the T20 World Cup only after the May 26 IPL final.
Team India Gears Up for World Cup with Departure on May 25th
The men in Blue will be departing for the the T20 World Cup on May 25th, as per the BCCI Sources allowing players to spend some time at home after the hectic IPL Schedules and will also help them relax and get refreshed before starting to play in the upcoming big tournament.
As per the anonymous BCCI sources, players like skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel, along with the support staff, are likely to depart on May 25th. The remaining would leave after the IPL final on 26 May.
This schedule will ensure sufficient time to overcome jet lag and conduct three to four productive practice sessions before the warm-up game against Bangladesh.
India will begin playing in the T20 World Cup against Ireland in New York on June 5, and further, a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan slated for June 9 waits for thrillers and chills to run down the veins.
