Before India starts its next WTC campaign, some decisions need to be taken. Shubman Gill’s team is going back home for two series: one against West Indies and another against South Africa in October and November, according to the ICC website. Having been runners-up in the WTC twice, they want to get as many points as possible from these four home games. Let’s look at five questions they need to answer before the next Test.
The plan to play Jasprit Bumrah in only three Tests in England seemed reasonable given the 2-2 series score. Mohammed Siraj played all five matches. India will be keeping an eye on Bumrah’s fitness. Given what happened in England, it’s unlikely Bumrah will play all four Tests at home later this year, especially with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
Number 3 delima
Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair had chances to grab the no. 3 spot during the England tour. But neither of them really took it. They struggled against England’s fast bowlers. One of them will get another chance against the West Indies in October. India will hope someone really claims that spot. Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Abhimanyu Easwaran are the other players who are waiting for their chances
Future of Kuldeep Yadav
Since the conditions in the subcontinent will be quite different from England, India will definitely play left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the home matches against West Indies and South Africa. Kuldeep almost played in England but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were chosen instead. Both performed well in the series, taking 7 wickets each.
As team India plays with 3 spinners in Asian Conditions but with Axar Patel also in contention will Kuldeep Yadav finally break into team India’s 11 against West Indies?

Who after Ravindra Jadeja?
Jadeja is a starter in any India Test XI right now. It will be interesting to see if selectors continue to give Washington Sundar opportunities in the same team and whether Nitish Kumar Reddy will get a chance. Washington and Reddy are promising Indian cricketers and Jadeja is closer to the end of his career than the start so the young all-rounders should get more chances.
Will Mohammed Siraj get a much needed break?
Mohammed Siraj performed when India needed him most in the five match series in England. He will be feeling good heading home for the red ball matches against West Indies and South Africa. It will be tough for Siraj to repeat his performance in England, especially since his Test average is better away from home than in India. Siraj doesn’t need to win every game but he can do well in all conditions. Siraj has bowled longer spells in all 5 tests so team India also needs to get his workload managed.
