Tim Paine is moving up the coaching ranks. Cricket Australia has appointed him as a consultant where he’ll work with the Australia ‘A’ team and the women’s first team and coach the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.
His first coaching gig is with Australia ‘A’ who take on Sri Lanka ‘A’ in July where he’ll lead them in three 50-over games and two four-dayers. Then he’ll coach them on a tour of India in September and October and a single four-dayer against the England Lions.

Paine has coached various development teams in Australia. Last year he was an assistant coach when India ‘A’ played two first class games ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His assistant will be Adam Griffith, the national pace bowling coach, Scott Prestwidge who works with the national women’s team and Trent Keep from Northern Territory Cricket.

Ben Oliver from Cricket Australia said he was looking forward to Tim being in this coaching role and supporting emerging Australian players.
In other news the National Selection Panel has selected 12 men’s players to go to the MRF Academy in Chennai from July 31 to August 13. The trip is for young batters, wicketkeepers and spin bowlers who could use some experience in sub-continent conditions. Brian McFadyen will be the tour manager with coaches from Australia U19s and New South Wales, South Australia and Cricket Queensland.

Oliver said their partnership with the MRF Academy was ongoing and this trip will give many players their first taste of touring the subcontinent and gain valuable experience. The players going to the MRF Academy are Joel Curtis, Harry Dixon, Zanden Jeh, Campbell Kellaway, Angus Lovell, Rafael MacMillan, Ollie Peake, Lloyd Pope, Niv Radhakrishnan, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott and Lachlan Shaw.
