According to reports of recent times, there are strong chances of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has been quite a sensation with the Rajasthan Royals, getting a place in India’s under-19 cricket team for its England tour, set for June this year. This boy made headlines during this ongoing IPL season by scoring an outstanding century against Gujarat Titans. Times of India has reported that this under-19 squad would take on the English in a series comprising five ODIs and two Tests, perfectly timed with the senior team’s trip to England for this summer.
It is expected that Suryavanshi, who has recently scored a staggering 101 runs in an astonishing 38-balls against the Titans, will make it apparent to the selectors that they would be keeping a different eye possibly on Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai, another budding future star who has been doing much better recently in his innings with the Chennai Super Kings. The upcoming England tour is indeed a great opportunity for both to show their talent, especially because there is an under-19 World Cup happening next year in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Interestingly, Suryavanshi and Mhatre were both part of the Indian under-19 team that played last year’s Asia Cup. Although they performed exceptionally well, the team could not manage to win the finals against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Recently, Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in IPL, while Mhatre has been busy churning out many speedy innings for the Super Kings.
Here’s a small insight into the schedule for the India under-19 tour in England:
