Former Olympic medallist and boxing star Vijender Singh has generated some interest on social media by raising questions about IPL’s breakout star Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s age. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), he hinted at possible age cheating in cricket just a few days after the 14-year-old scored a marvelous century in just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans.
“Bhai aaj kal umar choti ker ke cricket me bhe khelne lage (Has a player started reducing their age in cricket too?)” said Vijender. Suryavanshi, the youngest player in IPL history to score a century, has definitely made an impression in the 2025 season. The knock received praise from cricketing greats and the public alike, raising questions again about the integrity of his age, which has remained an issue in the Indian sporting arena.

It is also important to note that there are no allegations against Suryavanshi at present. Age fraud or players misrepresenting their age to gain an advantage, a malaise that has reared its head in Indian cricket time and over again. Cricketers like Rasikh Salam, Manjot Kalra, and Nitish Rana confronted bans from the BCCI for the same.
The whole journey of Suryavanshi has been splendid. He was acquired for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL 2025 Auctions in Dubai by Rajasthan Royals. The day he got a chance to play this season, he made an immediate impact, hitting a six on the very first ball of his debut match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19. A century in just three matches has shot him to fame.
