The Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first IPL trophy by six runs over Punjab Kings, bringing joy to all those who had worked for 18 years. It was an emotional moment for him. Virat Kohli had tears in his eyes when the realization of them winning dawned on the players. There had been talk of Kohli retiring from IPL after this win; however, he dispelled those rumors in a post-match interview. He said the victory is among the strongest in his entire career, and it is clear that he will remain with RCB for as long as he plays IPL.
Kohli said, “This is right up there. I’ve given everything for the last 18 years, staying loyal to this team through thick and thin. We have supported each other; this win was my dream. My heart belongs to Bangalore, and I’ll play for RCB until my last day in the IPL. I want to win the big moments, and this one was the missing piece. Tonight, I’ll sleep like a baby.”
With this win, RCB now lay a claim of having won an IPL trophy. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have won the trophy five times each, while Kolkata Knight Riders have three times. RCB has now joined companies like SRH, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans, who have the distinction of winning it at least once.

In the Final, Punjab Kings opted to bowl first. They put up a good show and restricted RCB from scoring freely to 190 runs. This seemed very much in their reach, and Punjab started well, only to lose key wickets in the middle overs, which really made it so much harder as the game progressed. Despite Shashank Singh’s gallant fight, Punjab lost by six runs.
