Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra recently offered some thoughts on the Lucknow Super Giants and their performance in IPL 2024. He said that while KL Rahul took the big decisions last year as captain, this year seems to be completely different. Mishra felt the decision-making was rather shared among more people this time around. He additionally noted the media may have heightened the expectations of the franchise owners, which might perhaps have added to the confusion regarding what was going down.
After the majority 2024 shakes for Lucknow and other franchises in the League, they parted ways with KL Rahul, bringing in Rishabh Pant instead with a bang as the IPL’s most expensive player ever. Mishra, since he had played for Lucknow for both 2023 and 2024, remembered seeing most of the crucial jobs being handled by Rahul in his captaincy. “Last year when I spoke with JL (Justin Langer), he mentioned that KL had everything under control. He was the one deciding the playing XI and working on strategies. This year, I don’t think that’s quite the case,” Mishra noted on Cricbuzz.
He found that this year, there was more collaboration. He pointed out Pant was interacting with Zaheer Khan in the dugout and also saw Rathi in conversation with Langer. This shift in dynamic signals more consideration to others for their opinion from coaching and support staff.

As for the team in IPL 2025, things are still heading downhill for Lucknow. The franchise found itself at a really odd position on the points table after 10 matches. Mishra made comments regarding the management after a latest scene wherein owner Sanjiv Goenka had an ugly spat with Rahul on the field. “When it comes to the owners, I’ve never felt like they were too overbearing. The owner has always kept a positive attitude and hasn’t raised his voice in the locker room. I think the media may have overdramatized things a bit,” he stated.
In the meantime, the momentum seems to have shifted into the favor of Mumbai Indians, riding high on a comprehensive 54-run victory over Lucknow. That was an absolute walkover for the home side, in which Suryakumar Yadav lit up the night by ripping apart the Lucknow bowling to be undoubtedly counted among the tournament top scorers with his brilliant 54 runs off a mere 28 deliveries. However, not long after that, Kohli put in an even better display on that same night, leaving the yard. Quite a few ups and downs for the Lucknow Super Giants this season. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how they turn the tables.
