Pant has been in great form in this Test series in England. He scored two centuries in the first Test at Leeds and a quick fifty in India’s second innings at Edgbaston. That helped India set a big target of 608 for England. India won the Test by 336 runs. After recovering from a car accident, Pant joined the Indian team in September 2024. Even after the long break, he is an important part of the team.
While his batting has been good, his wicket-keeping antics are also part of Indian Test cricket. His constant chatter, often picked up by the stump mic, makes Test cricket interesting. He talks to the batsmen and gives advice to the bowlers which sometimes leads to dismissals, banter and arguments.
Indians aren’t really known for sledging, a feature that was absent during MS Dhoni’s time. So it’s worth wondering how Pant picked up this habit. Before the Lord’s Test, Pant revealed that his childhood coach, Tarak Sinha, taught him to keep talking to himself. My coach, late Tarak Sinha, told me to keep talking to yourself. I’ve been doing it since childhood and it helps me, Pant told reporters before the third Test.
Pant also spoke about the Indian team for the third Test, saying that Jasprit Bumrah would probably play. At Edgbaston, Akash Deep replaced Bumrah and became the second Indian bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test, as India won their biggest win overseas.

Pant praised young captain Shubman Gill who took over from Rohit Sharma and is doing a great job. Good camaraderie off the field leads to better communication on the field, said Pant. Bumrah wasn’t playing but Siraj and Akash Deep stepped up.
