Keshav Maharaj is out of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on Sunday as he’s got a left groin strain.
In the first Test at the same venue on Tuesday, South Africa won by 328 runs. They had only four players from their World Test Championship winning team against Australia at Lord’s last month. That number will now be three as Senuran Muthusamy replaces Maharaj. Wiaan Mulder will captain the team as they try to win the series 2-0.
Cricket South Africa said Maharaj hurt himself while batting on day three of the first Test on Monday so he’s going back home to get tests to figure out how bad the injury is. They also said Senuran Muthusamy has been chosen to replace him and Wiaan Mulder will captain the second Test which starts on Saturday.
Lungi Ngidi, the seamer who played in the WTC final, didn’t play in the first Test but was supposed to join the team in Zimbabwe for the second Test. Now Cricket South Africa has cancelled that plan saying Lungi Ngidi was supposed to join the team on Wednesday but they decided to let the seamers who played well in the first Test have another chance to improve.
South Africa, who won the World Test Championship, played well in the first Test against Zimbabwe. Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Corbin Bosch and Wiaan Mulder all scored centuries and Codi Yusuf, Maharaj, Mulder and Bosch took wickets. The Proteas won by 328 runs.
The second Test will also be in Bulawayo on July 6.
