On 25 April at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 43rd match of IPL 2025. The season has not exactly gone well for CSK as they stuttered through the first half, managing only 2 wins out of 8 matches, with this poor beginning really hurting CSK’s chances to reach the playoffs.
Most fans and analysts feel that CSK has fallen behind in previous player auctions. Although the team hastily got a few solid names for the top order, it dismayed the entire scene by disregarding the middle order batting. The team has several matches where the top players did not accumulate runs in a critical match-up; this has resulted in some major tumbles for the team. Things only got worse for CSK with the unfortunate injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad; it struck a real blow to them. In spite of all the hardworking bowling from the other players, they are unable to bag their wins due to batters on their team unable to give enough support.
CSK is creating some ground-breaking changes looking fresh by introducing a new face-Dewald Brevis, an upcoming and promising talent from South Africa-to replace Gurjapneet Singh. It is still considered grounds for speculation whether Brevis will make his debut matches for CSK today at SRH. Head coach Stephen Fleming mentioned that they are working themselves to give him a chance while conveying that other players have been with the team since the beginning of the season.
Fleming shared, “He’s one of the options that we’ll look at. There’s also other players who have been with us for the whole tournament. Brevis is a good addition to the squad, but we just have to manage what we think would be the best team, given the players that have been working away with us, and also look at the impact that Brevis can have. So that’s part of the discussion.”
Dewald Brevis became part of CSK for the 2025 season after being signed for INR 2.2 crore. Entering CSK at INR 2.2 crore, Brevis was permitted to be added by CSK as one more overseas player because of the surplus overseas players from the auction. Brevis was with the Mumbai Indians side for net playing in the last two seasons with the franchise. He has played a total of 10 matches in the IPL and has accumulated 230 runs with a phenomenal strike rate of 133.72. The Mumbai Indians did not retain him before the mega auction, leaving him without a team till CSK picked him up.
As the cricket match day approaches, CSK fans are waiting with hope for some help from Brevis to reverse fortunes and add some much-needed batting firepower.
