Opening has been very good practice for young wicket keeping-batsman Jamie Smith, who now gets ready to face the Indian quicks in five Tests, starting June 20 at Headingley. In the third ODI, Smith had hit a quick half-century in just 25 balls and finished with 64 runs, with England winning the match by seven wickets.
Smith commented, “There is an opportunity to play and experience opening when the ball is moving against quality bowlers. It is certainly good practice for the India series. We are getting close now, and it has been good playing these three games.”
He had ODIs strike rate 180.35 with the scores 37, 0, and 64 as England swept down the West Indies by 3-0. Since last September, Smith has been part of the team as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow.

He will rest while preparing for India, as he isn’t selected for the three T20Is. I feel good. Hopefully, the next 10 days’ preparations go well, and we can go into the India series feeling fresh, he mentioned.
He is yet to face India’s premier pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and is keen on learning from the others’ experiences. I hope to watch the guys go up against him first from my spot lower down the order, he mentioned while talking about the challenge Bumrah puts on players.
