Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer, said the most memorable part of the recent five-Test series against England was when India drew the Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. He credited Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for that.
India were 1-2 down in the series and in a tough spot. Jadeja and Sundar then scored centuries. They didn’t lose a wicket for two sessions. That’s how India avoided a loss.
The series ended 2-2 after India won the final Test at the Oval by six runs.
In an ICC Instagram video, Yuvraj said, For me the moment of the series was when India drew the Test series, especially that game in Manchester. I haven’t seen Washington and Jadeja score hundreds to draw a Test match in a long time and that’s saying something.
Yuvraj who played 40 Tests for India and scored three centuries also praised Jadeja and Sundar who scored his first Test century. He added, Jadeja has been around for a while but for Washington Sundar to come into the team as a youngster and do what he did was amazing. I’m very proud of both of them.
Yuvraj Singh also thinks Shubman Gill’s performance in the England tour was remarkable especially since there were doubts about how he would perform overseas before the series started.
Gill scored four centuries and was the top scorer with 754 runs in that series. He became the first Asian batter to score over 700 runs in a Test series in a SENA country (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). His performance was the reason why the visitors could draw the series 2-2.
Gill at 25 was the captain of a young team in this tough tour. Three experienced Test players—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin—had left the format one after the other leaving a void in the team.

Yuvraj told ICC Digital at the ‘50 Days To Go’ Women’s Cricket World Cup event, There were concerns about his record when playing overseas. But Gill became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It’s amazing how he took on the responsibility and succeeded. He added, I’m very proud of the Indian team. Even though it was a drawn series I feel it’s a win for us because it’s a young team. It’s not easy to go to England, play well and prove yourself.
Even with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh injured and Jasprit Bumrah playing only three games to manage his workload India showed a lot of character. They won the fifth Test at the Oval by six runs and drew the series.
