Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the best spinners that India produced in cricket. But unfortunately, the last couple of years didn’t go as planned for the veteran Indian leg spinner. With the arrival of young spinners, Chahal has been sidelined away from the action and has been in and out of the team. Currently, he is playing the ongoing County Championship Division Two 2024 in England.
Despite not being given a chance for red-ball cricket for India, Yuzvendra Chahal showed that he can also be a good test bowler. In a recently concluded County match at County Ground, Northampton, Chahal recorded his career-best FC match figure to help his team Northamptonshire register a big win by 133 runs against Derbyshire.

Yuzvendra Chahal registered his career best bowling figure to help Northamptonshire win
It was the 47th game of the ongoing County Championship 2024 between Northamptonshire and Derbyshire and ended as a memorable outing for the veteran leg spinner. Northamptonshire got all out to a below par total of 219 in the first innings. But Chahal’s 5/45 restricted Derbyshire to 165, giving his team a decent first-inning lead of 54 runs.
From 150/4, they lost their six wickets for just 15 runs, courtesy of brilliant bowling from the Indian leg spinner. In the second innings, Northamptonshire made 211 and gave the target of 265 runs to chase. Yuzvendra Chahal once again bowled superbly, and this time he troubled the top order batters.
He took three of the top five batters dismissed and took 4/54 in the second innings. He finished with 9/99, which is now his new career-best FC figure. During the game, the leg spinner also completed 100 wickets in his first-class cricketing career. He has played 38 FC games so far and taken 106 wickets so far.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw, who is also playing for Northamptonshire, had a poor game. The opener only scored 4 and 2 in two innings of the game. Shah and Chahal were not considered for the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 in India.
They, along with Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer, are playing in the ongoing Country Championship in England. Northamptonshire are currently sitting on the bottom half of the table and need to win their last two games to stay ahead of their competitors.
