Tanmay Srivastava, formerly a batter for Deccan Chargers and also Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, is going to be an umpire in the IPL 2025. You might remember Srivastava from the India U19 World Cup-winning team in 2008, back when Virat Kohli was captain.
Tanmay Srivastava, who played a big part on that U-19 team that won it all, will be an IPL umpire this year.
Srivastava stopped playing professional cricket five years back and has been an umpire in local games since then.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association posted a tweet Monday night, saying, “Once a player, always a player—just a different role now. Good luck to Tanmay Srivastava as he takes on this new job with the same energy.
Srivastava was with Kings XI Punjab during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, playing seven matches.
Even though he didn’t have a ton of luck in the Indian Premier League, Srivastava did pretty well in domestic cricket, racking up almost 5000 runs in 90 first-class matches.
Guess who’s playing in the opening game of the 18th season? Srivastava’s old U19 captain, Kohli!
A true player never leaves the field—just changes the game.

Srivastava played his first List A game in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in October 2006, playing for India Blue against India Green. He didn’t have a great start, getting out for zero after three balls.
That one bad game aside, Srivastava ended his List A run with 1728 runs in 44 matches, averaging 44.3 with seven centuries.
A week later, Srivastava played his first-class game in the Irani Trophy but only managed one and zero in the two innings.
Srivastava’s T20 debut was in the Inter-State T20 tournament in April 2007, but he only scored six runs against Railways.
The last time we saw Srivastava playing was in the 2022 Legends League, where he scored 81 runs in three innings, averaging 40.5.
