Prior to the series of five Test matches against England, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur shared some thoughts regarding the contrasting personalities of Test captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant. On Saturday, BCCI did name Shubman as the new Test captain and Rishabh as his deputy.
The two being big players and definitely the future of Indian cricket. Shubman is serious and calm about the game, whereas Rishabh is quite funny and lively. They have performed really well in big matches, thanks to which they are great players of the future-they can certainly hold the tag.
The series against England will be played from June to August 2025, with venues including Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. Abhimanyu Easwaran has found his way into the Test squad. Domestic cricket has seen him make his mark. He’s played a solid 101 first-class games, scoring 7,674 runs at 48.87, and holding 27 centuries in the bag. But the last tour to Australia was not very favorable to him as he could muster just 36 runs in four innings.
With Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket, Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair, among others, will try to actively assert themselves in the middle order. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack in England, while Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Shardul Thakur will work under him. This marks the bilateral series first since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hung up their boots in test cricket.
