Sanjay Manjrekar said Shubman Gill looked unsure on Day 4 of the Lord’s Test. This was after the constant sledging from the England players, especially after Gill’s exchange with them at the end of Day 3. Manjrekar drew a parallel with Virat Kohli who does better when he’s angry.
At the end of Day 4, India were 58/4, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Gill and night watchman Akash Deep. Brydon Carse got Gill’s wicket, trapping him LBW with a sharp ball.
Gill looked tentative yesterday evening because of the pressure from England. Virat plays better when he’s angry, while Dhoni is the opposite. Gill needs to figure out whether he plays better when calm or angry, Manjrekar tweeted on Monday. Carse kept questioning Gill all over and got the wicket. Gill who was expected to score with KL Rahul was out for 6.
Before the series started people were questioning Gill’s record in SENA countries. But he proved them wrong by improving in the red ball format. Even though Gill has scored the most runs in the series with 607 runs from three matches at an average of 101.16, his 16 and 6 at Lord’s has people wondering about his mindset.

The Indian batting lineup led by Gill has done well after Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired. Rishabh Pant, Gill’s deputy is the second highest run scorer in the series with 416 runs from five innings at an average of 83.2. With India needing 135 runs to win and six wickets left, a lot depends on Pant.
