Ravi Shastri, the former India coach, thinks Shubman Gill is going to be the face of Indian cricket. He’s following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Shastri said Gill is young, fresh and good looking.
On the Stick to Cricket podcast, Shastri talked about how much Indian cricketers make from endorsements and who’s going to be the next big star. He thinks Gill is on his way, his performance is backing him up.
Shubman Gill will be the next one. Yashasvi Jaiswal too. For some reason people love batters. With his captaincy and the runs he’s been scoring, he’s going to be the pin-up boy, Shastri said. “He’s young, fresh and has the looks. Now is the time to make money. He is calm. You saw him finger-pointing, but with experience he will get better, Shastri added.
Earlier in the episode, Shastri shared how much top Indian players earn off the field.
“They earn a lot through endorsements, definitely over Rs 100 crores. Someone like Dhoni, Kohli or Tendulkar at his peak would do 15-20 ads a year, Shastri said. “It’s per day. They give you one day to shoot and then the ad can be used as many times as needed, Shastri added.
