Brendan Taylor, the old Zimbabwe captain, is back to play cricket for his country after being banned by the ICC for 3 1/2 years.
Taylor last played for Zimbabwe in September 2021. Now, almost 4 years later, he’s back. He’s been added to the Zimbabwe Test squad for the 2 Tests against New Zealand starting on Wednesday, July 1. For the past few days he’s been training with the team in Bulawayo getting ready to play again after 4 years away.
Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said Taylor will be back for the 2nd Test according to Herald Online. He’s happy to have Brendan back. Taylor will likely play in the 2nd Test which starts on August 7 in Bulawayo.

Taylor was banned for 3 1/2 years by the ICC for not reporting a corrupt approach and using drugs in 2019. He’s one of Zimbabwe’s best players with 9938 runs in international cricket and holds the record for most international hundreds for Zimbabwe (17).
If Taylor plays in the 2nd Test he will be the player who debuted earliest among all current Test cricketers with his first game in 2004. He has 6 Test hundreds which is joint 2nd most for Zimbabwe. His return will add experience to the team. As Zimbabwe rebuilds for the 2027 ODI World Cup Taylor’s leadership will be important both on and off the field.
