Mohammed Siraj had another good one in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He took 4 wickets in India’s first innings. England were all out for 247, giving them a slim 24 run lead at the Oval on Friday, August 1.
After a shaky start Siraj bounced back after lunch. He took 4 wickets for 88 runs in 16.2 overs. He got rid of Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jacob Bethell and Harry Brook. This kept India in the hunt as they try to tie the series 2-2.
This is the 6th time Siraj has taken 4 wickets in an innings in England. He had 2 such performances in India’s big win at Lord’s in 2021. He had one in the 2022 Edgbaston Test and another in the 2023 World Test Championship final at the Oval. He added one more to his list in India’s win at Birmingham in this series.
Among Siraj’s 4 wicket hauls, there is only one 5 wicket haul. It was in the 2nd Test of the tour where Shubman Gill led the team to a 336 run win.
With his performance at the Oval, Siraj now has the most 4 wicket hauls by an Indian in England, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah’s record. Bumrah has 4 wickets. Now he is the first Asian pacer after Waqar Younis to get 6 4 wicket hauls in England. Waqar had this record for 29 years since his 6th in 1996.
