Yash Dhull is back in cricket and it’s a real comeback story. After captaining the India U19 team to victory in the 2022 World Cup, he’s now making waves with his play for the Central Delhi Kings in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025.
But in 2024, he had to miss the first DPL season as doctors found a 17mm hole in his heart and he needed surgery. Getting back on his feet after the surgery was tougher than any challenge he faced on the field.
After the surgery his body really struggled. For weeks he couldn’t even get out of bed. The medication made him weak and his blood pressure and heart rate would spike and that would set back his recovery. It seemed like he might not come back. But Dhull didn’t give up. With the help of his doctors and his own willpower he slowly got his strength back. He returned to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy last October and scored a century.

Though he didn’t get an IPL deal in the last auction he made the most of his chance with the Central Delhi Kings in the current DPL 2025.
Dhull sees his return as a second shot and he’s putting all his energy into working hard and taking every chance he gets. In a video shared by DPL on Instagram, Dhull said, “When I went for a check-up in Delhi the doctors told me I had a 17mm hole in my heart.
The check-up took about half an hour. It wasn’t great news and I was worried but I was also grateful that I found out about it. If you find out too late it can cause more problems. So I feel lucky that I was able to handle everything.”
He also said that the doctors really encouraged him when things were tough and that he had the surgery just two days after the check-up in Delhi. Now Dhull is just playing his best in each game, staying present and enjoying cricket without worrying. He thinks it’s important to stay in the moment because thinking about the future or the past can mess with his current performance.
Dhull said, “For me coming back means I have to work hard. I don’t see any other way; I have to do well. If I do well I’ll get opportunities. So I’m focusing on each match and trying to enjoy it. The doctor told me to enjoy the game and not stress. So I don’t worry; I just enjoy playing. And I’m having a great time.”
Right now Yash Dhull is the third-highest run-scorer in the DPL 2025 with 435 runs in 8 games, averaging 87 with a strike rate of over 167.
Catch him in action on August 29 when the Central Delhi Kings play the East Delhi Riders in Qualifier 1 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
