It is a relief for England at last. Fast bowler Mark Wood, one of their prime assets for the next Ashes, got the all-clear on his hamstring injury, thus ending 24 hours of tension and conjecture.
The alarm was triggered on Thursday, November 13, when the 35-year-old left the field during the warm-up match against the England Lions, creating doubts that he might not be able to play in the first Test against Australia in Perth the following week.
Mark Wood has Been Pronounced fit For The Ashes 2025
Wood had practiced for eight overs on his return to competitive cricket but experienced some stiffness in his hamstring while running, which prompted immediate precautionary scans on Friday.
With the Ashes 2025 opener only a few days away, the England camp was completely pessimistic. Nonetheless, the ECB came forth with the best news possible.
The scans indicated the absence of injury and that Mark Wood has been cleared to keep up with his preparation.
“The ECB has definitively aligned itself with the health of Mark Wood, saying through a press release that ‘following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler has been cleared of any left hamstring worries.'”
“The likelihood of Wood taking part on Day 3 of the warm-up match at Lilac Hill is small, but the team has promised that he will be able to follow and participate in the training routine before the Perth Test.”
England Breathe a Sigh of Relief
“This news comes as a great sigh of relief to the England team. Wood’s participation in their Ashes campaign is deemed critical mainly for his big speed factor, particularly on the high-bouncing wicket of Perth.”
“Should he stay in peak condition, England could have a very strong pace trio of Jofra Archer, one of Brydon Carse or Josh Tongue, and Gus Atkinson, besides the already-bowling captain Ben Stokes who has resumed his bowling drills.”
“Besides Wood’s fitness, the warm-up match has also given England some good signs. Stokes took six wickets in the first innings, which is an indication that his road to bowling rhythm has been timely and crucial.”
“At the same time, Pope made a powerful century at No. 3, which not only removed any doubts about his position in the Test XI but also virtually confirmed his place in the team for the Perth confrontation.”
