As the IPL 2025 season wraps up for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), it’s clear that things haven’t gone as expected. After finishing as runners-up in 2024, they’ve fallen short this year, missing out on the playoffs. Now, there’s a lot of chatter about Ishan Kishan.
He came on board for a hefty INR 11.25 crore, and fans hoped he’d make a big impact at the top. Instead, he’s only managed 231 runs in 12 games, with just one century to show for it. Without that century, his performance hasn’t looked great at all.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra didn’t hold back on his YouTube channel, suggesting that SRH might need to think carefully about Kishan’s future. He pointed out that if a player struggles to perform after scoring a century, the team needs to reassess their options. That might sound harsh, but it’s pretty much the reality. Kishan came with high expectations, and one good game can’t make up for an otherwise quiet season.
The bigger concern is that SRH’s top order is doing well without him. Abhishek Sharma is playing great, Travis Head has been solid, and even Atharva Taide impressed in his chance. With all this talent, Kishan is starting to seem out of place.
Chopra pointed out that if Abhishek keeps this up, he’ll look really good, and with players like Taide and Head performing well, there’s no guarantee Kishan will keep his spot.

He also suggested that SRH might be reconsidering their lineup and how to balance their players’ performance with their price tags. While they might stick with their core team, Kishan could find himself on the chopping block if they want to make some budget space for the next auction.
Franchises spending over INR 11 crore on a player expect regular performance, not just one standout innings. Kishan’s disappointing season, along with SRH’s struggles, could make him a candidate for release.
Will SRH decide to cut ties? It’s hard to say just yet. But it wouldn’t be shocking if they make a tough choice at the auction, because in the competitive world of the IPL, a good name doesn’t always mean you’re safe.
