It looks like the teams in the Indian Premier League might let their overseas players decide if they want to come back for the second half of the tournament. IPL 2025 is set to start again later this week, now that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire. The BCCI announced on Friday that they’re pausing the rest of IPL 2025 for a week due to tensions between the two countries. So far, there hasn’t been any official word from BCCI about when the league will resume.
One team CEO mentioned, “We won’t pressure anyone; it’s up to them. This is a situation no one saw coming and is out of anyone’s hands. There’s a rule that says if a player pulls out after being picked in the auction, they can’t play for two seasons, but with the current situation, that rule might not apply.

As of Sunday, teams were still in the dark about what comes next. BCCI is expected to meet with government officials on Monday to decide when and where the last 16 games, including the playoffs, will take place. The plan seems to be to wrap up IPL 2025 by the end of this month, so if everything goes well, the tournament could return.
Up until Monday morning, there were no reports of teams reaching out to their overseas players. Many teams stated they’d wait for more details and dates before getting their foreign players back. Still, it seems that most overseas players are willing to come back if they resume the tournament later this week.
