The IPL 2025 final is slated for June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, comprising the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Punjab locked their position by beating the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, mainly due to Shreyas Iyer’s 87 off 41 brilliant deliveries.
Iyer is eyeing the record in this highly coveted final. He stands second among Indian batsmen for the most sixes in a single IPL season with 39. Crossing the line with four more sixes in the final would mean he has broken Abhishek Sharma‘s 2024 record of 42 sixes.
If Iyer takes Punjab Kings to a win in IPL 2025, he will become the first-ever player to captain two different teams to victory.
“Concentration was the key before my big knock,” described Iyer of his preparation. “When I’m in the zone, it starts way before the match-during warm-ups and planning how to approach the game. Once I got locked in, I knew how to rally my players, and they did a great job limiting the opposition to 203.
I had a plan for the red-soil pitch. Our openers got us off to a good start, then Josh came in at No. 3, and I felt I had time. Once I got my eye in, it was all about going with the flow and trusting my instincts. I’m happy but not satisfied.”
